Headquartered in Waterford, NY, Kivort Steel is a full-service metal distribution center offering carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum products.
Founded 70 years ago as a scrap metal business in Warnerville, NY, Kivort Steel is now a third-generation, family-owned company. Abraham Kivort emigrated from Lithuania and launched the scrap enterprise, and with each successive generation, Kivort Steel has expanded to meet the marketplace demands.
When Stanley Kivort, Abraham’s son, joined the company at 24, he began selling new steel as well as scrap. Without a building to work from, Stanley ran the company for 35 years and further developed a loyal customer base. Stanley’s son Robert joined the team in 1990, as did Mikhail Polishchuk. Both became integral in Kivort Steel’s growth and expansion. In 1997, Stanley decided to take a step back from day-to-day operations and Robert took the reins.
In order to accommodate the company’s growth, Robert and partner Michael purchased a 20,000-square-foot facility and seven acres in Waterford, NY, in 1999. They decided to focus solely on selling new product, and Kivort Steel evolved into the full-service distribution warehouse that it is today.
With each generation, Kivort Steel’s success has grown from unparalleled customer service. From truck-load deliveries to cutting a small piece of steel for a retail customer, Kivort Steel has always adapted to meet customers' changing needs.
