Carbon Steel : Reinforcing Bars
Reinforcing bars are billet steel bars used for reinforcing concrete in construction applications. The bars have protrusions or lugs, which are intended to act as grips, preventing the steel from sliding inside the concrete due to load or temperature shift. Standard bars also known as grade 40, are bars that conform to ASTM A615. These bars have a nominal tensile/yield of 70,000/40,000 psi respectively. Bars are sized by number 3 to 8, the number referring to the diameter in eighths of an inch. A bar, number 3 therefore is a bar 3/8 of an inch diameter.
